If the American Government Had More Elected Officals and Pundits like this...

Ran across this on Transgriot's blog:

There are no words to express how awesome this man is. None.

  1. My speakers are not working, but isn't that the guy who fought for the better health care?

I think one of the main problems is the fact Americans, in general, are scared of word "socialism" so they, themselves, allow rich and powerful to oppress them and do nothing about it.

  2. Yeah, he was one of the major proponents of a universalized system.

I'd agree if I didn't know my fellow Americans so well. The problem with Americans, and I hate to say the stereotype is true but it is, lies in the fact that a good percentage are either lazy in terms of political and social agency, stupid in terms of political and social agency, or both.

Americans, especially those who oppose health care reform, among other things, fall into one of two categories. Either they're uneducated and bigoted, or they're gaining something from the current system. The uneducated and bigoted (i.e.- the Tea Partiers) often don't care to be educated on why concepts like universal healthcare a good for everyone, and they're also often very selfish and/or individualistic. Also, most, if not all of them, are racist and prejudiced to a repulsive degree.

The ones gaining something from the current political schema are, quite obviously, on the "winning" side of the whole economic/social/political arrangement. I tend to view them as one would view the bourgeoisie/nobility during the French Revolution.

However, the truth of the matter, in my opinion, is ultimately this: America would have had universal health care along with the rest of the world if not for one thing. They don't want "lazy welfare loving minorities" benefiting from "their" tax dollars. If America was 80-90% white, most political issues would be non-issues.

In short: Bigotry-Causing Political, Social, and Economic Regression since the colonizing of the New World.

That should have read: "Regressive Americans" (i.e.-Republicans, etc.), especially those who oppose...
